Mrs. Chas. Butler Died Saturday, June 21
Mrs. Chas. Butler, 73, died at the Gorman Nursing Home in this city Saturday, June 21st, where she was residing following a series of strokes. Mrs. Butler had been living at the nursing home approximately a month, and had been moved there from the Skiff hospital in Newton, where she had been a patient as a result of a severe stroke several weeks ago. Death came at 11:25 Saturday morning.
Lydia Margaret Butler was the daughter of H. H. and Elizabeth Brock Rounds, and was born Nov. 5, 1894 at Hancock, Ia. She received her education in the Oakland, Ia. Schools, and was united in marriage to Charles A. Butler at Avoca, Ia., March 14, 1908. Following the couples’ marriage they moved to Colfax to make their home and with the exception of a five year period have made this city their home. After residing here for a period of years, they moved to a farm at Oakland for three years, and later after returning to Colfax, moved to Newton for two years, where Mr. Butler was an employee of the Maytag Co.
Mrs. Butler has been active in the affairs of the Rebecca Lodge, having served that organization as a Past Noble Grand and Musician. She was a member of the Christian Church.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Charles, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Ward of Colfax; two sons, Charles M. of Grand Mound, Ia., and Harvey E. of Des Moines; 1 brother, John Rounds, and 6 grandchildren. A host of friends and neighbors in this city, who have known her throughout the years, also mourn her passing.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church in Colfax Tuesday afternoon, June 24th, with Rev. N. G. Clayton, pastor, officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Nancy Tobias, soloist with Mrs. Lee Schmitt, organist.
Bearers were Paul Jones, Charles Elliott, Clifford Castings, Cleo Wall, James Sage and Charlie Nikolish.
Those in charge of the floral arrangements were Mrs. Thomas Wearmouth and Mrs. James Park.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
