Death of Father
Lawrence B. (Bert) Donaldson, 99, father of Mrs. Gale Tilton of this city, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1972 in the Keokuk County Hospital at Sigourney. He had resided at the Sigourney Nursing Home the past three years.
A pioneer farmer of the Washington, Iowa, area, he retired from his farm south of that city when 85 years old.
The son of John P. and Mary Buck Donaldson, he was born Oct. 1, 1873at Sandy, Ohio, where he was reared and educated.
On Sept. 8, 1897, he was married to Susan E. Rice at Washington, Iowa.
Mr. Donaldson was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 8, 1944, a son, Lloyd and infant daughter, Pauline.
Surviving are seven children: Mrs. Tom (Grace) Harper of Sumner, Wash., Forest R. Donaldson of Puyallup, Wash., J. Melville Donaldson of Washington, Iowa, Harry Donaldson of Washington, Iowa, Warren Donaldson of Ainsworth, Iowa, Mrs. Gale (Leanna) Tilton of Colfax, Iowa, Mrs. Robert (Lona) Henderson of Columbus Junction, Iowa. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1972 at the Jones funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. The Rev. William H. Hettlitz conducted the services.
Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa.
