Services Held Sept. 20 For Helen DeReus
Helen DeReus, 84, of Prairie City died of a heart ailment Saturday, Sept. 18, at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Prairie City Christian church, of which she was a member. Pastor Robert Price conducted services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
The soloist was Walter Williams, and the organist was Janice Elrod.
Casket bearers were Robert Patterson, Ernest DeReus, LeRoy Marshall, George Patterson, LeRoy DeReus, and Eldon Marshall.
Coburn Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
Mrs. DeReus was born near Prairie City on Sept. 20, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Martha Danley Patterson. On November 26, 1929, she was united in marriage to Henry DeReus at Newton. They lived in Prairie City since 1971, after having farmed in the Ira area for twenty years.
She is survived by her husband, Henry, several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, George, Jack and Bill, and five sisters, Bessie, Millie, Hazel, Blanche, and Estella. Her parents also lost a set of infant twins.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Prairie City Christian Church, where a memorial has been established.
