John E. Hamer Dies Monday at Moline, Ill.
John Elwyn Hamer, 65, of East Moline, ill., a former resident of this city, died Monday night, Oct. 2, 1972 at a hospital in East Moline. He had suffered a stroke that afternoon.
The son of Edward and Jane Owen Hamer, he was born April 16, 1907 at Lanidloes, North Wales. He came to Colfax when three years of age and grew to young manhood here, he went as a young man to work in Chicago, Ill., and lived there a number of years, later residing a few years in Connecticut and Des Moines and for the past 25 years has been employed as an automobile salesman for Lundahl Motors Inc., in Moline, Ill.
He was married to Ruth French on Feb. 12, 1927 in Chicago.
Survivors are his wife, Ruth; one son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Jean; and granddaughter Pamela Hamer, all of East Moline. Also surviving are two brothers, Albert of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Ernest of Colfax; and two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ann) Baker and Mrs. John C. (Ruth) Williams, both of Colfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents in 1955 and a sister, Mrs. John W. (Enid) Colby on May 5, 1970.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Oct. 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Ester Dahl Funeral Home in East Moline. Graveside rites will be held at about 2 p.m. at the Colfax Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Wilder of the Baptist Church officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hamer, their son, Jim of Indianola and daughter, Mrs. David Conwell of Kalona, attended funeral services for their brother and uncle, John E. Hamer in Moline, Ill., last Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hamer of Woodland Hills, Calif., who were in Moline for the funeral services, accompanied them back to Colfax for graveside services at the Colfax Cemetery.
Richard Hamer of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Colby of Sioux Falls, S.D., Malcolm Colby of Mason City and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Colby, Linda, Karen and Thomas of Hanlontown, attended graveside services for their uncle, John E. Hamer at the Colfax Cemetery Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5th.
