Mrs. Roy Griffioen Died June 24
Mrs. Roy (Mabel) Griffioen, 71, of Mitchellville, lifelong resident of the Colfax and Mitchellville communities, passed away Wednesday evening June 24th at her home after suffering a heart attack.
Mabel Blanche Griffioen, who was the daughter of Frank and Sarah Romans, was born at Galesburg, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1899.
She was united in marriage to Roy Griffioen April 6, 1917 at Des Moines.
Surviving are her widower; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Roberts of Altoona, Mrs. Royal (Frieda) Cross of Colfax and Mrs. Harold (Betty) Jacobson of Mitchellville; three grandchildren, Phil Roberts of Altoona, Doug Cross of Colfax and Kristy Jacobson of Mitchellville.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Gale (Mary) Boatwright, Mrs. Ralph (Helen) Bertrand, both of Des Moines, and Mrs. D. K. (Vera) Browne of New Port Richey, Florida; and two brothers, Virgil Romans of Des Moines and Jesse Romans of Albia.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, one brother, Lewis, and an infant son.
Services were held at the Congregational Church in Mitchellville on Saturday, June 27th. The Rev. Carroll Brown Sr. conducted the services. Mrs. Griffioen was a member of the Congregational Church.
Those serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Beverly Harridge and Mrs. Barbara Hoover of Mitchellville and Mrs. Cecile DeReus and Mrs. Velma Cleveland of Colfax.
Pallbearers were Harlan McClannahan, Elmer Morrow of Mitchellville, William Buckroyd, Ralph DeReus, Joe Slatkoski and Clyde Brown of Colfax.
Organ music was by Harold Whitaker.
Interment was in the Mitchellville Cemetery.

Words are inadequate to express our deep feeling of gratitude to the many friends and neighbors for their acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy in the loss of our loved one. It is comforting to know that so many others shared in our grief. We shall be forever grateful for everything that was done for us.
