Clifford Brant Rites Held June 16
Clifford Myron Brant, 33, lifelong resident of Colfax, was killed when struck by a car when he and a friend were repairing a muffler on his car in Grinnell, Friday evening, June 12, 1970. The accident happened about 10:20 p.m. on a four lane street in Grinnell and he was dead on arrival at a Grinnell hospital.
The son of Harry E. and Harriett Williams Brant, he was born Sept. 6, 1936, at Colfax and attended school here.
He was married to Joan Kay Cornwall on Feb. 11, 1955 at Newton. Six children were born to them.
Clifford served in the Armed Forces from 1954 to 1957, and was a member of Jones-Willis Post No. 175 of the American Legion. He was employed as a foreman of a crew with Shade Tree Service of Webster Grove, Missouri, for the past six or seven years. He was a member of the Christian Church of Colfax.
Surviving are his wife, Joan, and their children: Debra Jean, 13, Clifford Jr., 12, Gary Lee, 10, Harry Edward, 7, Jolene Kay, 5, and James Ray, 3.
Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Brant Sr., five brothers, Clyde and Richard of Colfax, David of Baxter, Harry Jr., of Glenwood and Sp/4 Edward (Bud) Brant of Fort Knox, Kentucky; and four sisters, Mrs. Forrest (Betty) Northrup of Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Paul (Martha) Sharp of Loveland, Colo., Mrs. Donald (Jean) Roam of Colfax and Mrs. Marvin (Connie) Eaton of Newton.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Jack and James Everett.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16, 1970, at 10 a.m. at Walters Funeral Home in Colfax with the Rev. Laurence Garrett, minister of the United Methodist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Darrold Hunter was the soloist and Miss Eleanor Howell was organist.
The bearers were Jack Gibson, Dwight McDaniel, Wayne Hill, Earl Miller, William Hopkins and Pete Smith.
Honorary bearers were Curtis Flora, Fred Petrie, Harry Gibson and Dick Swanson.
Mrs. William Muck, Mrs. Fred Petrie and Mrs. Dewey Smith served on the flower committee.
Military rites were conducted by Jones-Willis Post No. 175.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
