Vessie (V. E.) Rhone Died Tuesday
Vessie Earl Rhone, 75, a resident of the Colfax community over 50 years, died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday night, Sept. 3rd while attending a meeting at Sand Hill Grange hall.
The son of James and Sarah Cornelison Rhone, he was born April 14, 1893 at Lorimor, Iowa.
He was married to Esther Amy Beals, Dec. 10, 1919 at Newton.
Mr. Rhone was a retired farmer; also had been in the hardware business at Mingo and at Colfax for a time and as a young man had been employed by the railroad.
He was a member of the Colfax Methodist Church; also a member of the American Legion at Colfax and a 50 year member of Sand Hill Grange.
He served on the Jasper County Tax Review Board for several years.
Mr. Rhone was a veteran of World War I.
Preceding him in death were his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Esther; a son, Jack L. Rhone of Colfax; four grandchildren, Bob, Donna, Joyce and Patti Rhone of Colfax and two brothers, John Rhone of Windon, Minn. and Lee Rhone of Hurdsfield, N.D.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 6th at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church at Colfax. The Rev. Laurence Garrett, minister of the church, will conduct the services.
Military services will be by Jones-Willis American Legion Post of Colfax.
Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery.

V. E. Rhone Rites Conducted Friday
Funeral services for Vessie Earl Rhone, 75, were held Friday afternoon in the Colfax Methodist Church.
The Rev. Laurence Garrett, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in McKeever Cemetery.
Mrs. Frank B. Evans was organist.
Pallbearers were Crawford Lippincott, Chess Bell, Harold Taylor, John Bill Baker, Bill Dunsbergen, and Fred Garrison.
Honorary bearers were John Cross, Art Rose, Claire Pease, Howard Bell, Hugh Parker and Ira DeReus.
Mrs. Gerald Bauer, Mrs. T. S. Warrick and Mrs. Claire Pease were in charge of flowers.
Members of Jones-Willis Post of the American Legion in Colfax conducted graveside military services.
Mr. Rhone died Tuesday evening, Sept. 3rd in Sand Hill (Goddard) Grange Hall.
