John Stewart Sr. Died Saturday at Colfax
John Stewart, Sr., 90, a resident of this city since 1900, died Saturday, January 4, 1964 at the Gardner Custodial Home in Colfax, where he had resided the past four years. Death was caused by the frailties of age.
The son of George and Nancy Miser Stewart, he was born at Kirksville, Mo., November 6, 1873. On January 17, 1903, he was married to Elizabeth Smith at Colfax. His wife preceded him in death, August 13 1953.
Mr. Stewart worked on the railroad until his retirement in about 1951.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Colfax and was honored as a 50 year member in 1962
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by a son, George Wesley, on July 30, 1956.
Those surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Pete (Mae) Van Dusseldorp of Altoona; two sons, John and Frank, both of Colfax; a sister, Mrs. Anna Wade of Colfax; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home in Colfax. Rev. Marlowe Reinholdt, minister of the Colfax Baptist church conducted the services.
Music was furnished by Gordon Gill, soloist and Mrs. Lee Schmitt, organist.
Bearers were: Leonard Harris, Frank Pion, Wesley Good, Mike Marcsisak, Mitchell Orlich and Eben Van Dusseldorp.
Flower Committee: Mrs. Mitchell Orlich, Mrs. Eben Van Dusseldorp.
I.O.O.F. rites were by Colfax Lodge No. 476
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
