Services for Ellis Orley Morton, a former Colfax resident and the husband of the former Geneva Miller of Colfax, were held in Chariton at the Miley Funeral Home.
Mr. Morton is survived by his wife, Geneva of Des Moines, five sons, James Clyde, Des Moines; Joseph Ellis, Alma, Michigan; Robert Elvin, Altoona; Richard Frederick, Des Moines; William Orville, Newton; one daughter, Mrs. Earnest (Patricia Ann) Kintz of Des Moines, a step-daughter, Mrs. Harold (Catherine) Henderson, Mingo; two brothers, Herbert of Forsythe, Mo., and Fred of Klymouth Falls, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has lived in or around Colfax several times, farming for others and Mr. Morton worked for some time at the John Dick Produce Co., and plowed gardens. He had worked for Lucas County as a road maintainer operator for 12 years prior to his disability retirement in 1961. In December of 1961, the family moved to Mingo, where they resided until January of 1963 when he entered University Hospital at Iowa City, where he underwent major surgery. He remained in the hospital until the last of February when the family moved to Des Moines.
Mr. and Mrs. Morton left June 5 for a visit to Calif., with his son, James, who brought his father back to Iowa August 14. This trip, which was tiring to him, was a highlight in his life and he never tired talking of his experiences.
He again returned to Iowa City Hospital on Oct. 10th and was a patient there until his death Oct. 19.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 21 at 2:30 at Miley Chapel in Chariton with Rev. Everett Hollingshead, cousin of Mr. Morton, officiating. Music was by Mr. Gilbert Garton with Mrs. Florence Whisenand at the organ. Escorts were Harry Prough, I. M. Malone, Larry Morton, Joe Halferty, Bill Crowe, Bernard Roe, all fellow employees of Lucas County. Internment was at Zion Cemetery, near Williamson.
