John Kartchner, Sr., and son, Nate, were called to Omaha last week by telegram announcing the dangerous illness of Francis Kartchner, eldest son of Mr. Kartchner. The young man’s disease was appendicitis and his condition had so much improved that his father and brother returned to Colfax last Thursday. Subsequently, Mr. John Kartchner was taken ill and later a telegram was received bearing the information that Francis was worse. Being unable to go himself Mr. Kartchner sent L. H. Wintersteen, who left Wednesday evening, but arrived in Omaha after the death of the young man. Mr. Wintersteen immediately took charge of the remains, and will arrive in this city Friday afternoon at one o’clock with the body, which will be taken immediately to Liberty school house, where the funeral will be held. The deceased was a railroad man and unmarried.
