Death of Elizabeth Slagel
Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. J. and Mrs. S. Slagel, was born in Randolph county, West Virginia, March 20, 1825, and died August 18, 1912, at the home of Milton Vanscoy, in Buena Vista township, Jasper county, Iowa, being at the time of death 87 years, three months and 28 days old.
The deceased had been an invalid for many years, her life having been a continual affliction for fifty years, one of God’s shut-ins, for she trusted in God.
She came to this county with her parents in November 1855, and it had been her home until she passed from labor to her reward in the haven of everlasting rest, dying without scarcely a moment’s warning.
At a protracted meeting, at Hixson’s Grove, where E. S. Brown was pastor, many years ago, she gave her heart to God and her hand to the church, and I have reason to believe she is now at rest.
Elizabeth was one of a family of 12 children, all of whom have now passed away, except one brother, Eli, who is past 85 and very feeble.
The funeral was conducted by the writer, W. A. Rouze. The text used may be found in Job 14:14.
