H. S. DeWitt Drops Dead
Suffers Heart Attack On Square This Morning; Had Been Carpenter
Harry S. DeWitt, 73, died suddenly this morning from a heart attack. Mr. DeWitt who resided at 826 West First Street North collapsed in front of a local business establishment soon after his arrival uptown. He died 15 minutes after a local physician was called to his aid. Ralph Toland, County Coroner, was also called to the scene.
Mr. DeWitt was a carpenter by trade and was at one time a member of the local police force. He was a member of the K.P. Lodge.
His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago.
Funeral arrangements are pending word from a son Robert who lives in Cement, Okla.

Funeral services were held for Harry S. De Witt from the Toland Funeral home on Wednesday, July 24 with Rev. James F. Phillips officiating.
Mr. DeWitt was born Nov. 29, 1872 in Onawa, Ill., and died of a heart attack in a local business house, Monday, July 22, aged 73 years, 6 months and 23 days.
Mr. De Witt who was a carpenter by trade had been a resident of Newton for more than 40 years, and had been a member of the K. of P. lodge for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a son. Survivors are a son, Robert S De Witt of Chickasha, Okla., who with his wife attended the services.
Pallbearers were: Albert Firman, Wilbur Woods, Jay Lambert, Harry Doane, Harry Grote and John Cook. Music was furnished by Mrs. Maurice Rodgers, who sang “Going Home” and “Rock of Ages.” Mrs. R. L. Jackson was accompanist.
Interment was made in the Newton Union cemetery.
