Mrs. Billingsley, Mother Of Local Physician, Dies
Had Been Ill For Two Years; Services To Be Held Tuesday
Mrs. L. K. Billingsley, 87, died at her home, 209 East Fifth street South, about 9:30 a.m. this morning, following an illness of two years, during which she was confined to her bed.
Flora E. Elliott, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Elliott, was born Aug. 7, 1859 in Mooresville, Morgan County, Ind., and came to Iowa in 1864. She was married to the Rev. L. K. Billingsley at Morning Sun, Ia., June 15, 1882.
After her marriage she resided in Atlantic, Jefferson, Creston and Des Moines, where her husband held pastorates. They moved to Newton in 1927. Rev. Billingsley died here in 1932. A daughter, Eleanor Truax Billingsley, died in infancy.
The deceased was a school teacher prior to her marriage. She was a member of the Methodist church, the women’s organizations of the church, and for many years was teacher of the Good Samaritan class of the Methodist church.
She was also a member of the Service Star Legion during World War I, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Chapter HS, P.E.O., and the Daily News Three Quarter Century club.
Survivors include her son, Dr. J. W. Billingsley, and two grandsons, William Kirk Billingsley and John Smith Billingsley, all of Newton.
Funeral services will be held from the Morgan Funeral Home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday witht the Rev. Dr. E. A. Briggs officiating.
Interment will be made in Newton Union cemetery by the side of her husband.
