Mingo Man Dies
Lee C. Westphal Dies Suddenly Monday Night
Lee C. Westphal, a pioneer resident of Mingo, and prominently identified with various activities of the town from its earlier days, died suddenly Monday evening at 6 o’clock.
Particulars of his death were not learned.
Mr. Westphal was one of the leading citizens of that community where he held a number of offices and was for a long time mayor. He enjoyed the friendship of Tommy Rodgers, and during the Civil war served in the same company. This is the second member of the Company C, Twenty–second Iowa Volunteers, to die within the last month. The other was Hort Mann (Mann, William M.), who died a couple of weeks ago in Monrovia, California.
Mr. Westphal leaves besides his widow, five children. His wife would be remembered in Newton by many as Mary Anderson, she having lived here for a number of years. He was also the uncle of Mrs. Reece Bond, of Newton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon in Mingo and burial will be made in the Greencastle cemetery.
