Newton Man Dies From Fall
Clinton Goodhue Dies at Home of His Daughter at Cummings.
Word has been received by friends here of the death of Clinton Goodhue, a pioneer of Jasper county, who died this morning at 2 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Farrar, at Cummings, Iowa.
Mr. Goodhue fell last Friday, breaking his hip, and the shock and other complication were the cause assigned for his death. He was more than 88 years old.
For many years he was engaged in farming in Wittemberg neighborhood where he and his family are prominent and well known. He came to Jasper county in 1854 and settled north of town where he lived until a few years ago when he retired from active work. The deceased will be identified as one of the three Goodhue men who boasted of being the three oldest brothers in Jasper county a couple of years ago. One brother, D. D. Goodhue, died about a year ago. Mr. Goodhue’s wife died about 36 years ago and is buried in the Wittemberg cemetery.
He is survived by his only brother, E. P. Goodhue, who is 84 years old and his children, Mrs. Lizzie Farrar which whom he made his home the past year, and his two sons, Elmer C. of Carlisle, Eddie F. of Mechanicsville, Iowa and Frank of north of Newton.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Wittemberg church and burial will be made in the Wittemberg cemetery.
