Death of Chas. Grandquist
Chas. P. Grandquist, a former Colfax man, died Thursday at a hospital in Des Moines, following an operation for gall stones.
Chas. P. Grandquist was born in Varmeland, Sweden, November 29, 1865. He came to America with his parents when a boy of 15 years. They settled in Boone County where they resided for about 5 years.
Mr. Chas. Grandquist then went to Colfax where he met and married Clara Leaf to which union were born 8 children, 4 of whom survive. They are John, Clarence, Russell and Deloris.
For 21 years, Mr. Grandquist was employed in the coal mines in and around Colfax.
In 1907 he and his family moved to Des Moines where Clara, his wife, died in April 1915.
Mr. Grandquist was employed by the Des Moines Street Railway Co. for 14 years, retiring in 1927.
July 27, 1921, Mr. Grandquist was united in marriage to Viola Cansdale, who now survives. Also 3 step children survive, Alta Grandquist of Des Moines, Everett Cansdale, Des Moines, William Cansdale, Lincoln, Nebr., and one brother Herman of Colfax, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the First Friends Church in Des Moines, Iowa, the Rev. Percy M. Thomas officiating with burial in Colfax Saturday.
