Former Colfax Resident Passed Away in California
Daughter of Mrs. Cora Belle Scott; Graduate of Colfax High School
Ladye Horton, 35, daughter of Mrs. Cora Belle Scott of this city died Wednesday, December 2nd, at Los Angeles, California. The body was cremated after funeral services had been held at Los Angeles. When the ashes are returned to Colfax, no definite time having been set, relatives and a few intimate friends will be invited to attend the interment in Oak Hill cemetery.
Ladye Horton, was born February 6, 1901, in Ashville, North Carolina and died in Los Angeles, California December 2, 1936, after a lingering illness of the past year or more. Her father, Col. H. V. Horton preceded her in death in 1908 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After his death, she and her mother, Mrs. Cora Belle Scott came to Colfax, Mrs. Scott’s girlhood home, where Ladye attended the Colfax school and finished with the class of 1918. She joined the Christian church of Colfax when quite young.
Funeral services were held in Los Angeles, California, after which the body was cremated. Her ashes will be sent to Colfax, where they will be placed in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery.
Ladye, a scenario writer and novelist, who wrote under the name of Ladye Harl Horton, was connected with Hollywood studios in this work. She had written the screen verson of “The Medicine Man,” and other motion pictures.
She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Cora Belle Scott of Colfax, also an uncle, C. W. Mills of Colfax and a host of friends.
