Mrs. W. R. Cross
Died at her home in Colfax Monday April 16, 1917, at 5:30 a.m. Eliza J., wife of W R. Cross. They have resided in Colfax since 1874 – 50 years in the home at the corner of Front and West streets.
Mrs. Cross was born at Springfield, Ohio, in 1832, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Straup. She was twice married, the first to Benj. Sapp. Her marriage to Mr. Cross occurred February 26, 1874, in Jefferson county, Mo., same year they came to Colfax.
Mrs. Cross was in bad health for 8 years before her death. She was a member first of the Methodist and later the Presbyterian church and was a true Christian all her life.
The funeral occurred at the church Wednesday 2:00 a.m. in charge of Rev. Williams. She is survived by her husband, Mr. W. R. Cross. A brother of the bereaved husband of Jefferson county, Mo., came to attend the funeral, also Mrs. W. M. Kelsey a niece of Adair, Iowa. Mrs. Cross was a member of Spring City Rebekah Lodge No. 270 and the lodge had charge of the funeral.
