Obituary of Mrs. Mary Willey
Mrs. Mary Willey was born at Greasborough county, of York, England, on November 10th, 1841, and died at Colfax, Iowa, Route 1, on June 2nd, 1916, aged 74 years.
She came to the United States from England and settled in the city of Des Moines, Iowa, in 1882. Mrs. Willey, was blessed with a family of ten children, six girls and four boys, all married, who are now left to mourn her loss, Frank E., Richard and Joshua Willey, of Seevers; Mrs. Wm. Gorman and Mrs. Jno. Robinson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Jas. E. Longdin, of Flagler; Mrs. Jno. C. Ward, Mrs. Chas. Lacey, Mrs. Thos. Davidson and Thomas Willey, of Colfax.
Mrs. Willey, has been a resident of Colfax and Oswalt since 1886, and was a kind and loving mother. She was identified with the Church of England, from infancy up and her many kind traits speak volumes. Mrs. Willey leaves two sisters, residents of England, to mourn her loss. She has been a constant suffer for many months knowing that the end was not far away and patiently awaited Him to beckon her hence to that haven of rest.
The husband and father died over 24 years ago and this is the first funeral in the immediate family since.
She will be sadly missed by her large circle of friends. In the passing away of Mrs. Wiley, Colfax has lost an honored resident and the children a loving mother.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Brown at the Methodist church last Monday afternoon. The body was escorted from the Northern depot to the church by the Miners Local. All of the children were present and the pallbearers were selected from among her grandsons. Interment at Oak Hill.
