Barbara Ann Graham was born the 29th of December 1842, at Snowshoe, Pennsylvania, and departed this life on the 31st day of January 1917, at her home in this city.
In July 1861 she was married to Constance C. Hinton. Just a month later Mr. Hinton enlisted in the army, and during the three years of the War of the Rebellion he served his country well and faithfully. In 1864 Mr. and Mrs. Hinton removed to Iowa, locating upon a farm just a little distance south of Colfax, where Mr. Hinton departed this life in October 1902.
Mrs. Hinton was the mother of 11 children, of whom six are left to mourn her departure, viz: Mrs. Rebecca Begnolis of Jordan, Montana; Mrs. Gertrude I. James of Phillip, S.D.; Mrs. Grace Melosh of Walla Walla, Washington; Charles Hinton of this city; Mrs. Anna Johnston of Des Moines, and Cyrus Hinton of Nevada, Iowa, and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Hinton’s death marks the passing of another of the pioneer mothers of this community, which for over forty-two years has been her home. She was a good, kind woman whose departure brings sorrow to the hearts of many who have learned to revere her for her genuine motherly way of being a comfort to them. She will be greatly missed by her sons and daughters who are bereft of her, but in all time have the conscience of a true, devoted parent.
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church on Saturday, February 3rd, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. E. G. Williams. Interment was made in Oakhill cemetery.
