December 6, 1918 ~ November 23, 2002 (age 83)
Dorothea M. Banks Jackson, the daughter of George L. and Ruth Pittman Banks, was born December 6, 1918 in Colfax, Iowa. She moved to Newton, Iowa in 1932.
In January of 1936, Dorothea was united in marriage to Harvey H. Jackson, Sr. in Newton. Together, they worked for the Maytag family, where she was a nanny for the children. Later Dorothea studied and became a home health aide and a CNA for the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She loved to sew, make ceramics and do creative cooking. Dorothea was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend, who was loved by all. She attended the Community Heights Alliance Church.
On Saturday, November 23, 2002, Dorothea died at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was 83.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey, Sr., daughter, April, a great-granddaughter, 5 sisters and a brother.
Those left to honor her memory are her 3 sons and daughter-in-law, Harvey H., Jr. and Pat Jackson, Robert D. Jackson, Sr. and T. Michael Jackson, all of Newton; 2 daughters, Joanne Jackson of Newton and Dorothea Marchelle Jackson of New York, New York; her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Pat Banks of Newton; sister, Frances T. Banks of Des Moines, Iowa and her many nieces and nephews.
