Robert Willard Banks Dies at Home Of Daughter Yesterday
Robert Banks, an old resident of Jasper county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie Shadley near Montezuma, Friday evening shortly after nine o’clock, after a three days illness with heart trouble.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home with Rev. R. S. Mills of the Wittemberg church officiating. Burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Robert Willard Banks was born March 25, 1853, in Iowa and his parents died when he was but a small child. He then made his home with an uncle at Ottumwa, Ia. until he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Luella Archie at Newton on Dec. 5, 1878 and they established a home at Monroe, at which place and Prairie City, they lived for over 50 years.
To this union were born seven children, three of whom survive, George Banks of Newton, Harry Banks of Creston and Mrs. Bessie Shadley of Montezuma. Two sons and two daughters died in infancy.
Mr. Banks is also survived by nine grandchildren, Clyde and Laurine Banks of Newton, Lloyd and Keith Banks of Creston and William, Bayard, Karl, Norma Jean and Leah Mae Shadley of Montezuma.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Monroe.
In October of 1927 Mr. and Mrs. Banks left their home at Monroe and lived with their children until the death of Mrs. Banks on April 7, 1929. Mr. Banks has continued to make his home with his children since that time.
