Funeral services for Dorothy Lucille Hildebrand were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Morgan Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Wentworth of the Methodist Episcopal church in charge. Burial was in the Newton Union cemetery.
Musical selections were furnished by Mrs. Fred Reeve and Mrs. Myrtle Burr, who sang, “Safe In The Arms of Jesus” and “Sometime We’ll Understand.” Flower girls were Evonne Richey and Deloris Rayburn.
Pallbearers were Ray Hildebrand, John Hildebrand, Kenneth Foster, Raymond Provin, Lee Hildebrand and Floyd Reavis.
Dorothy Lucille Hildebrand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Hildebrand was born on a farm three miles west of Newton on May 22, 1914, died July 2 at the age of 16 years. When she was two years old she moved with her parents to Newton where she lived the remainder of her life. She attended the Newton schools until late in the winter when she was forced to discontinue her school work because of ill health.
About a year ago she was seriously ill with asthma and was taken to Iowa City to the hospital where she was cured. She re-entered school last fall for only a short time before she was forced to return to the hospital for a mastoid operation. Since that time she had gained in health until her death which occurred shortly after 9 o’clock Wednesday evening when the car in which she was riding was crowded into the ditch on highway No 32, west of Cherry Creek bridge, two and one-half miles west of Newton.
Lucille was employed in the job printing department of the News Printing company where she was one of the trusted and valued employees. Her kindly disposition and the spirit of cooperation which she always promoted among those around her will always be remembered by those who knew her. She had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sunday school since childhood.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Hildebrand, three sisters, Louise, Imogene and Irene, and one brother, William, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Hughes and John Hildebrand, who is nearly 86 years of age, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Steen, Mr. and Mrs. L. Stephen and daughter, Bernice Garner and Tom Davis of New Sharon; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hildebrand and sons, John, Ray and Lester, Mrs. Ed Stanford of Montezuma; Mr. and Mrs. S. Hyett and daughter, Vivian, Mrs. Hazel Carney and daughters, Dorothy and Ruth of Mason City; Mrs. C. L. Hill of Davenport; Mrs. R. E. Sherman and children, Robert, Harold, Edward and Vern of East Moline, Ill., Will Stephen and sons, Burl and Merl of Des Moines; Mrs. Frank Stephen and son, Paul and Mr. and Mrs. George Stephen of Malcom.
