C. B. Dennis, 68, Is Dead In West
No Funeral Arrangements Made; Four Children Survive Local Man
C. B. Dennis, resident of Newton, died Saturday at the home of his brother, W. L. Dennis, in Long Beach, Calif. Mr. Dennis left Newton on Nov. 15 in good health and planned on spending the winter in California. Since the arrival at his brother’s home, Mr. Dennis had been in failing health. He was 68 years of age.
Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Dennis is survived by four children, J. A. Dennis of Knoxville, Ia., B. H. Dennis of Newton, and Clifford Dennis and Leah Scoville, both of Killduff.

To Hold Dennis Services Sunday
Body of Clay Dean Dennis Will Arrive in Newton Tomorrow Morning
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday afternoon at 1:30 for Clay Dean Dennis, who died at 10:20 Saturday evening at the home of his brother, W. L. Dennis, Long Beach, Calif., where he had intended to spend the winter months. Relatives will meet at the Morgan Funeral home at 1 o’clock.
Dr. R. L. Stuart, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church will be in charge. The body will arrive in Newton Friday morning on the 8 o’clock train if train connections can be made. W. L. Dennis will accompany the body here.
Obituary
Clay Dean Dennis, son of Benjamin and Matilda Dennis, was born on Aug. 23, 1860 near Ottumwa, Ia. With his parents, Mr. Dennis moved to Jasper county in 1865, locating about two miles northwest of Killduff. Here he grew to manhood and in 1882 was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Ann Richardson.
To this union four children were born. Mr. Dennis was a farmer residing one and one-half miles north of Killduff through his entire married life until he retired and came to Newton in the fall of 1908 where he had since made his home until in November 1928 when he went to California for a visit with relatives and friends. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
In Failing Health
He had been in failing health for some time, but did not consider his condition serious until a few months ago. About three weeks ago he became much worse.
Mr. Dennis is survived by three sons, Arthur Dennis of Knoxville, Benjamin Dennis and Clifford, both of Jasper county, and one daughter, Mrs. Leah Dennis Scoville of near Killduff, one brother, W. L. Dennis of Long Beach and nine grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death on June 7, 1928.
