John S. Warrick, Sr., Veteran Coal Miner Died Monday
Funeral Services to be Held Today, Thursday From Christian Church
Jack Warrick, 72, veteran coal miner of Colfax, died Monday night at 1 o’clock, following an illness of several months with a malignant disease.
Mr. Warrick was born in England and came to America when 15 years of age. He entered the coal mine when a lad of 11 years and continued in this trade until his last illness.
He had been a resident of Colfax and community since 1910 and not only worked in the mines here, but had also helped operate and for many years had been a mine foreman. He was highly respected by the man he worked with, by his neighbors and friends everywhere.
Until his last illness, Mr. Warrick had always enjoyed good health and was able to work at his trade regularly.
Besides his wife, Mr. Warrick is survived by four sons and three daughters, John Warrick of Monroe, Tom Warrick, Newton, Harry Warrick, Colfax, Frank Warrick, Burlington, Mrs. Chas. Sage, Colfax, Mrs. Holt Schieffer, Davenport and Mrs. Robt. Gregg of Colfax, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, at 2:30 p.m., from the Christian church, with the pastor, Rev. A. A. Burr officiating, assisted by Rev. Tom Foglesong of Winterset, a former pastor and close friend of Mr. Warrick.
Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
