Jasper youth dies in mower accident
Kent Eugene Schultz, 11, of Rt. 3, the son of Keith E. and Helen Joan Schultz, died Wednesday morning near his home after a tractor-mower he was operating apparently overturned suffocating him under the machine’s weight, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.
Dr. Angel Martin, Jasper County assistant coroner, said death was due to massive chest injuries. According to Martin the youth was apparently driving the tractor on the gravel road when it went out of control rolling into the ditch.
Martin said Schultz’s body was discovered shortly after the accident by a rural mail carrier about 12:35 p.m. and was taken by Reasnor ambulance to Skiff Medical Center.
Services will be held Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
