Mrs. Louis D. (Ethel H.) Smith, 90, of Prairie Village in Newton, a resident of Newton most of her life, died Friday, May 17, at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held today, May 20, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the Newton First Christian Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to the First Christian Church will be accepted.
Survivors are a brother, Robert G. Riley, who was raised by his sister, Mrs. Smith; a sister, Mrs. Vincel (Ardith) Hart of Burbank, Calif., and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Willard (Dolly) Murphy of Forest Grove, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis D. Smith April 23, 1960 and four sisters, Mildred Bovenkamp, Florence Goodhue, Elizabeth McCullough and Vera Bennett, and two brothers, Sheldon and Roy Riley.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Christian Church at which she recently was recognized as its oldest active member; the Loyal Daughters Sunday School class, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and the RSVP.
The daughter of Jerry and Carolyn Robson Riley, she was born March 17, 1895 at What Cheer.
She was married Oct. 12, 1912 at Colfax.
