R. B. Bannister rites Thursday; dies on Monday
Funeral services for Russell B. Bannister, 56, of 1301 W. 16th St. S., a longtime resident of Newton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
Father William Kaska, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
He died Monday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Chieko; two sons, Taichi G. of Lubbock, Tex., and John E. at home; a grandson; and his mother, Mrs. Berniece Bannister Toedt of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.
Mr. Bannister was a life member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American legion, a member of the Cooties and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Bannister was an employee of the Maytag Co. Plant 2 and had served in the Marine Corps and the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
The son of Gustave and Berniece Hannagan Bannister, he was born May 25, 1925 in Newton, attended Milwaukee, Wis., schools and a Milwaukee trade school.
He was married to Chieko Takasugi Sept. 5, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan.

Russell B. Bannister, an employee in Plant 2 quality control, died Monday in Skiff hospital. He was 56. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Services were held this morning in Newton and burial was in the Veterans section, Newton Union cemetery.
First working for the company in 1946, Bannister worked here intermittently from 1955 until his continuous employment began in February 1970. He worked in a number of departments at both plants before transferring to quality control in April 1977.
Survivors include his widow, Chieko; two sons, Taichi of Lubbock, Texas, and John, at home, and his mother, Mrs. Bernice Toedt, Newton.
