Miriam Bannister, 88, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Colfax, died Friday, Dec. 21, at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls. A memorial services will be held at a later date with burial In Prairie City.

The daughter of William and Ella Pearse Sapp, she was born March 15, 1913, in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1930 and attended Iowa State University. In June 1936, she married John Stock in Colfax. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Colfax Bottling Works and Dick's Produce. In 1945 she enrolled in the School of Dental Hygiene at Northwestern University in Evanston, III. Following graduation in 1947, she practiced In Highland Park, Ill. Later she returned to Iowa and worked as a hygienist in Des Moines and Ames. She married Robert Bannister in June 1956. They lived In Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Des Plaines, Ill., and in 1973, retired to Colorado and Texas.

Mrs. Bannister was a member of the Iowa Dental Hygienists' Association, United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Women's Club. In June 1989, she moved to Cedar Falls to be near family.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Alvira and Vilas "Sid" Morris Jr. of Cedar Falls, two grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a sister, an infant daughter and a son. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, 16 January 2002

Miriam, the daughter of William and Ella Pearse Sapp was born Mach 15, 1913 in Colfax. She was the youngest of seven children and graduated from Colfax High School in 1930. From 1934-36 she attended Iowa State University.

In June of 1936 she married John Stock in Colfax. They farmed south of Baxter. He died November 1941.

Following her husband's death, Miriam and her two small children, Edwin and Alvira, moved to Colfax, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Colfax Bottling Works and Dick's Produce. In 1945 she enrolled in the School of Dental Hygiene at Northwestern University. Following graduation in 1947 she practiced in Highland Park, Illinois, then returned to Iowa where she was Hygienist in dental offices in Des Moines and Ames. from the summer of 1952 until fall of 1956, she worked for C. W. Stewart, a dentist in Bedford.

She married Robert Bannister in June of 1956. They lived in Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Des Plains, Illinois, retiring in 1973 to Colordado and Texas. He died in February of 1984.

Miriam had been active in B.P.W., Iowa Dental Hygienist Association, United Methodist Church, O.E.S. and Women's Club. In 1989, Miriam moved to Cedar Falls to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers Floyd, Ralph, Alaine, Paul and Ray; one sister, Adah Manley; an infant daughter; and son, Edwin stock who died November 1998.

Survivors include her daughter and son -in-law, Alvira and Vilas "Sid" Morris, Jr. of Cedar Falls, two grandsons and six great-grandchildren. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, January 17, 2002
