BENJAMIN (BENNY) BARBOUR DIED SAT. IN CALIFORNIA

Body Will Be Returned To Colfax And Burial Will Be Thursday.

Word was received here the first of the week of the death of Benjamin, (Benny) Barbour, 44, at Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, Oct. 4th.

While he had been in the hospital for three weeks and undergone two operations and was reported last week in a serious condition, yet his passing came as a shock to family and friends as he had no previous illness.

Benny was raised in Colfax. He was born Nov. 10, 1902 at Pekay, la., coming here when a small child. After his marriage to Thelma Rodgers of Newton in 1936, they moved to Newton, where he was employed and where he made his home until about a year ago when the family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to make their home.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Benny Joe, II, his mother, Mrs. Henry Barbour, and sister, Mrs. Thelma Bridie, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Alex Barbour, Jenkins, Minn. and Harry Barbour of Colfax.

The body is expected to arrive in Colfax Thursday evening and will lie in state at the Bumgardner Funeral home until the funeral service, which will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Christian Church.

Rev. A. A. Burr of Des Moines will be the officiating pastor and interment will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Funeral services for Benjamin (Benny) Barbour, 44, were held Saturday afternoon from the Colfax Christian church with the Rev. A. A. Burr of Des Moines, officiating.

The profusion of flowers and many relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral was a tribute keenly felt by his family.

Mr. Barbour died in a hospital in Los Angeles, California, where he had recently submitted to two operations.

Benjamin Barbour, son of the late Henry Barbour and Caroline Barbour, was born in Pekay, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1902, and passed away at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in Ca1ifornia, Saturday, October 4, 1947, at 1:10 P. m. at the age of 44 years, 10 months and 4 days.

When he was five months old, he came to Jasper County with his parents, settling in Seevers. In 1913 the family moved to Colfax, where he received his schooling in the Colfax schools.

On Sept. 5, 1936, he was united in marriage to Thelma Rodgers of Newton. To this union was born one son, Benny Joe, who with the wife survive.

He also leaves to mourn his passing his mother and sister, Thelma Bridie of Long Beach, California, two brothers, Alex of Jenkins, Minn., and Harry of Colfax, together with a host of other relatives and friends. "' Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. George Rinkler and Jean Binkerd.

Pall bearers were Harold Carpenter, Ray Owens, William Muck, Harry Wilmot, Rex Rorabaugh and Meschek Gregg.
