Ballard, Mary Emma Cottrell (Conley)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Emma (Cottrell) Ballard were held at the Walters Funeral Home in Prairie City last Thursday morning, Nov. 10th. The Rev. Walter Goughnour was the clergyman in charge. Serving as pall bearers were Vernon Bowen, Cecil Brunner, L. W. Meador, Albert McFadden, LeRoy Schakel and Harry Wassenaar.

Mrs. Ballard was a former resident of this community. She died Nov. 8th at the Highland Park Nursing Home in Des Moines.

She is survived by two children, Doyle R. Cottrell of Des Moines and William Roscoe Cottrell of Hindale, Illinois. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one brother, Percy B. Conley of Prairie City.

Interment was made in the Waveland Cemetery, Prairie City. ~ Prairie City News, November 17, 1966

Submitter's Comments: Mary was born April 29, 1876 in Agency City, Wapello Co., IA. She liked to joke that she was born in 1776. She had a great sense of humor.
