Percy R. Helphrey, well-known farmer in the Metz community died at Skiff Memorial Hospital last Sunday afternoon a 1 o’clock of a heart ailment and pneumonia.

Mr. Helphrey, 55 years old, had been in ill health for the past year. He suffered from a heart ailment, but recently pneumonia developed and he became a patient at the hospital Saturday morning.

He farmed the old Helphrey homestead, five miles southwest of Newton, which has been operated by the Helphrey family for three generations. The son of the late Louis and Tilsie Marshall Helphrey, he was born on the farm Oct. 30, 1887. He attended a rural school in the community and was married to Alta Coker of Newton Feb. 19, 1913. The two lived on the farm for six years, then moved to near West Concord, Minn., where they live for ? years, then returned to the home farm. Mr. Helphrey was a member of the Palo Alto Grange and served as Master of the Grange for Two years. He was a member of the Methodist Church of West Concord, Minn.

Relatives surviving include his wife, a sister Mrs. William Allen Moore of Newton, and five nephews and nieces, Sgt. William Helphrey of the U. S. Army, a former resident of Waterloo, IA., now stationed at Camp Barkeley, Tex., Leroy Helphrey of Worthington , Minn., Francis Moore of Newton, and Mozelle and Darlene Moore of Newton.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl, who died July of 1931. Mrs. Earl Helphrey now makes her home with her son, Leroy, in Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at Murdoch Funeral Home here Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 16, at 2 o’clock, with Dr. Loren M. Edwards, Minister of the Newton First Methodist Church, in charge. P. R. Helphrey Rites Are Held

Funeral services for Percy R. Helphrey, 55-year-old farmer of the Metz community, who died at Skiff Memorial hospital Sunday, were conducted from the Murdock funeral home Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 13. Rev. Loren M. Edwards, minister of the Newton First Methodist church, officiated at the services.

Ralph Miller, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. H. L. Jackson, sang “Nearer My God to Thee” and “I’ve Done My Work.”

Grange Member
Mr. Helphrey was a member of the Palo Alto grange and served as a master of the grange for two years. He was a member of the Methodist church of West Concord, Minn.
