Thornton Rites Conducted Here
Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur Thornton, 53, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Murdoch Funeral home by the Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser. Interment was in the Riverside cemetery at Marshalltown.
Pallbearers were Fred Byerly, Frank Oliver of Newton, George Hedstrom, Claude Sheldon, Thomas Moran and Louis Stehm of Marshalltown.
Flowers were arranged by Mrs. A. J. Waddell, Mrs. N. C. Shaver and Mrs. Bert McConeghey and Mrs. Frank Oliver, Mrs. R. L. Still and Mrs. Cloyd Farhney sang “In the Garden” accompanied by Mrs. R. L. Jackson, organist.
Lillie Caroline Lange was born Nov. 4, 1887, at Spencer, Ia.; and was wed to Arthur Thornton on July 4, 1910 at Marshalltown, Ia.
At the present time Mr. Thornton is employed by the Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines but the family has been resident in Newton the past 14 years.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Surviving are her husband and seven children: Mrs. W. S. (Esther) Tyler of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Craig (Mary) Zimmerman, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Cobbs, Evelyn at home, Lloyd of Marshalltown, Duane and Glenn at home.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, and four sisters.
