R. Scofield Dies Today
Longtime Newton Resident Dies At Home of Daughter In Columbus, O.
Ralph S. Scofield, 69, longtime resident of this community, died this morning at 2:00 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Miss Irene Schofield (sic) in Columbus, O., where he and Mrs. Scofield have been making their home since early last fall, according to word received by friends here today.
Mr. Scofield, sheet metal worker at the Maytag company for many years, suffered an extended illness about a year ago. Last fall he and Mrs. Scofield closed out their home here in Newton located a 713 West Third street South, and moved to Columbus where two of their children Irene and Mark live.
While not in the best of health lately, Mr. Scofield was able to be up and around considerably. On Tuesday, Feb. 25, he celebrated his 69th birthday anniversary with his family.
Funeral services will be held at Columbus on Monday and burial will be there, according to information in a telegram received by Mrs. Howard E. Stratton, neighbor of the Scofields when they lived in Newton.
Mr. Scofield was born on Feb. 25, 1872. He worked at the Maytag factory for a number of years, retiring in January of 1939.
He is survived by his wife and four children: Irene of Columbus, O.; Mark also of Columbus; Mrs. Harry Skinner of Cleveland, O.; and Mrs. Chester Landis of Stanford, Conn., and by three grandchildren.
