Miss Florence Hopkins, teacher in the Colfax Public School, who suffered an attack of acute appendicitis last week, and was taken to the Victoria Sanitarium, where an operation was performed Friday about noon, died early Saturday morning.

Miss Hopkins was in school all day Wednesday. Alto for several days she had complained of feeling ill, not even when her pace was supplied on Thursday, did her parents of her friends realize that she was critically ill.

Florence was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hopkins and when a child resided in this city, where she is remembered and loved by many.

For the past four years she had been a teacher in the schools at Colfax, having taught the year before in the country schools.

She was a bright beautiful character and with her sweet winning ways won all as her friends.

In June her marriage to Dr. Ralph Baker was to have taken place and the sympathy of all goes out to him in his bereavement.

The funeral was held yesterday from the Christian Church in Colfax. The many beautiful flowers and floral pieces represented the great esteem and love with which she was held in the hearts of all in the county. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, April 23, 1906, Page 1, Column 2
