SATURDAY RITES HELD HERE FOR FORMER RESIDENT

A former Grinell resident, Floyd Robert Ashing, 52, of Des Moines, died at his home Nov. 13. He had been in failing health the last several years.

Requiem High Mass was held Saturday morning from St. Mary's Catholic church here with the Rev. L. V. Kuebrich, pastor, officiating. Rosary was recited Friday night at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in Calvary cemetery here.

Pallbearers were John Hotchkin, Joe Hotchkin, Proctor Stepp, Bernard Young, Dick Badger, and Larry Tharp.

The son of Robert and Gladys Ballard Ashing, he was born in Bancroft, Iowa, on Nov. 22, 1910. His family moved to Grinnell when he was a youngster and he attended Grinnell high school.

On April 2, 1934, he was united in marriage with Mary Lucille Hotchkin at St. Mary's Catholic church in Grinnelll. After their marriage they lived in Iowa and Nebraska for a number of years while he was in the dry cleaning business.

During World War II he served in Europe with the Unied States Army. Following his discharge, they made their home in Des Moines and he was foreman in highway construction work.

Survivors include his widow, Mary Lucille; a son, Thomas Floyd Ashing of Des Moines; and one brother, Raymond Ashing of Longmont, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert James Ashing.
