OBITUARY
Armstrong, Sarah C. (Crooks)Sarah C. Crooks, daughter of Daniel and Catherine Crooks, of Leavettsville, Carroll County, Ohio, was born October 13, 1846. She was converted in her fourteenth year and united with the M. E. Church and remained a faithful and consistent member until death.
She came to Hillsboro, Iowa, in the year 1862, and on the 23rd of October 1864, she was united in marriage to David Armstrong, who preceded her in death on the 29th of August 1906. They resided at Hillsboro three years, moving from there to Rushville, Iowa, in Jasper county, where they lived seventeen years, and from there they came to Searsboro, where she has lived the past thirty years.
To this union were born three children Albert S., who died November 5, 1889; Emmett W., and Nettie C. both in the home.
After several months of severe suffering form a complication of disease she departed this life at her home near Searsboro on January 14th. 1915, aged 68y. three months and one day.
She is survived by one aged brother, J. W. Crooks, of Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. R. F. Wilson, of Baldwin, Kansas, and one grandson, John t. Armstrong, in the home, and a number of nephew and nieces.
Her favorite verse, “She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands.” Prov. 31:3.
The funeral services were held Saturday, January 16th. at the Methodist Church in Searsboro, at 12:30 p.m., conducted by a former pastor, Rev. J. J. Pritchard, of Sweetland Center, Iowa, who was assisted by Rev. Rubottom, her pastor, and A. A. Leifert, also a former pastor.
In opening his sermon Rev. Pritchard, quoted the favorite scriptural passage of the deceased from the 31st. chapter of Proverbs. “She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands” and spoke of its being typical of Mrs. Armstrong for she was a willing worker always and especially if by so doing she could do something for some one else.
She was ever thoughtful of others and especially by way of sending flowers of which she always had such abundance, to those who were sick or shut in, and many a sick room has been made brighter by blossoms from her garden and house.
The words of Paul “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith,” proved the foundation for the sermon.
