J. R. Alexander Dies Unexpectedly Of Heart Attack
(Special to The Daily News).
COLFAX-Joseph R. Alexander, 72, succumbed at his farm home in Poweshiek Township, north of Colfax, of a heart attack Monday [March 11, 1946] afternoon. Mr. Alexander had suffered a stroke last Dec. 18, but seemingly had recovered until he was stricken with a heart ailment shortly before his death at 4:00 p. m. Funeral services have not been arranged.
Son of Richard R. and Sarah (Webb) Alexander, he was born Nov. 27, 1873, on the farm where he died. With the exception of residence in Davenport and Oklahoma; he had spent practically all of his life in Jasper County.
On Sept. 11, 1907, he was united in marriage to Florence Patrie, who, with three children, Howard J. and Harold R., both of Colfax, and Mrs. George (Esther) Lind of Newton, survive. Other surviving relatives are four grandchildren, Betty, Gary and Carolyn Anne Alexander, of Colfax, and Lee Alexander Lind of Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Tina Barker of Mingo, Mrs. Anne Whitehead and Mrs. Milton (Elizabeth) McKeever of Des Moines; two half-brothers, Charles Rees of Woodbine, Ia., and George B. Rees of Davenport; and one half-sister, Mrs. Emma Seeley of Appleton, Min. Be was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. ~ Newton Daily News March 12, 1946
