JOE AKINS DIED AT OMAHA FRIDAY

Joe Yates Akins, 47, died at his home at Omaha, Nebraska Friday, March 29th from a heart attack, relatives here being notified of his death Saturday.

Mr. Akins, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Akins was born near Mingo, Iowa March 6th, 1899. He attended school in Mingo and High School in Colfax, Iowa, and then for a number of years was employed by the railroad companies in the Dakotas.

He was united in marriage to Edna Bailey at Mitchellville, Iowa in 1917. After they removed from Dakota to Keokuk, Iowa, she preceded him in death. He later lived in Des Moines and the last four years has lived at Omaha, Nebraska.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Wm. Sager of Collins, Iowa and three brothers G. V. Akins of Mingo, Guy Akins of Miami, Florida and George Akins of Port Townsend, Washington.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Cutter-Hartnett-Bumgardner Funeral Chapel in Colfax, with Rev. I. G Wilkins of Mingo officiating.

Music was provided by John A. Davis with Miss Eleanor Howell the accompanist.

Pall bears were Claude Baker, Otho Hulse, Earl Staker, Russell Southern, Virgil Sams and Louis Cummings. Interment was in the Greencastle cemetery. ~ Colfax newspaper, 00 Mar 1946

COLFAX-Funeral services will be held at two p.m. Tuesday at the Baumgardener Funeral Home in Colfax for Joe Yates Aikins who died at his home in Omaha, Nebr., March 29.

He is survived by a brother, Garrett Akins, of Mingo and a sister Mrs. William Sager of Colfax. Services will be conducted by Rev. I. G. Wilkins of the Mingo Methodist church and interment will be in the Greencastle cemetery.
