Chas. Agnew Passes Away His Suffering Ended

Charlie Agnew quietly passed away at the home of his father, Mr. J. S. Agnew, in this city, on Tuesday evening, March 15, aged 30 years, six months and 16 days. For two or three years Charlie has been in poor health from lung disease, and it has been evident for some time that consumption had marked him for its victim. His own efforts combined with the tenderest care of loving friends and physician’s skill could not avail against the progress of the dread disease. Since last December he has been confined to his home nearly all the time, where with Christian grace and perfect resignation he patiently awaited the final summons. He was a young man of unsullied reputation, a Christina of purest type, whose daily life was an exemplification of the religion her professed.

Charles Wallace Agnew was born in Newton August 27, 1867, and has always made his home here. June 9th, 1891, he was untied in marriage to Miss Dolly Main, of Colfax, a lovely Christian girl, and soon afterwards they united with the M. E. Church, and became active workers in church Sabbath School and Epworth League. The young wife was stricken with consumption and died on the 8th day of January 1896, her death being a crushing blow to her husband. But his uncompromising faith in the wisdom of God was unshaken and he was able to say, “Thy will be done.”.

He leaves a father, Mr. J. S. Agnew and one brother, Harry Agnew, both of this city, to whom all extend the tenderest sympathy. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church at 2 o’clock this afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. V. Cowan. Many beautiful floral offerings from Epworth League and other friends be tokened the love and esteem of those with whom he had been intimately associated. The remains were laid to rest beside his young wife in our beautiful cemetery.
