ROBERT ADKINS, 88, SUCCUMBS SUNDAY; WEDNESDAY RITES

Robert H. Adkins, age 88, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, died at a Grinnell hospital Sunday afternoon, following poor heath for the last three years.

He was born Dec. 15, 1875, in Rock Creek township, Jasper county, the son of James Francis Adkins and Sidney Jane Parmley. He received his education in the local rural schools of Rock Creek township, and later was united in marriage on Nov. 21, 1900, with Margaret Eliza Turner, at Turner, Iowa. To this union were born a son and a daughter: Verlin Basil Adkins of Rte. 2, Grinnell, and Mrs. Nona Adkins Burroughs of Chicago, Ill.

In addition to his son and daughter, Mr. Adkins is survived by two grandsons: Robert Francis Adkins and James Edward Adkins, both of Grinnell, and one great granddaughter, Lisa Kay Adkins of Grinnell, and two sisters: Mrs. Gertrude E. Reutter and Mrs. Henry (Mona) Ahrens, both of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret on Oct. 18, 1933; one great grandson, Philip Eugene Adkins on July 18, 1933; and four brothers and sisters.

Adkins had farmed all of his actrive life in Rock Creek township. He had attended the Primitive Baptist church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Beebe, of the Mayflower Home, officiating.

Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery. ~ Grinnell Herald
