Mrs. E. S. Masteller was born in Fayette County, Penn., and died March 2nd, 1906 at the residence of her son, William, near Reasnor, aged 82 years, 10 months and 14 days.

Her husband, E. S. Masteller, died in August 1901, at the age of nearly 80 years. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom preceded her to the spirit land. Those remaining are: Mrs. Ida Donnall and William Masteller of Reasnor, and J. C. Masteller of Adel.

Her maiden name was Ann Shaw. Her three brothers, James S. of Marengo, Willis O., of Bloomfield and Dr. W. H. Shaw of Monroe, were all present at the funeral. A sister in Ohio was unable to be present. Five of the pallbearers were her grandsons, F. E. and Clyde Meredith of Newton, Sherman Wood of Kellogg, Elmer Mercer of Reasnor, and Lee Donnell of Monroe.

Mrs. Masteller had been a sufferer for over twenty years from an injury received and during all that time not a word of complaint had passer her lips, but only words of appreciation for the kindnesses and care she received at the hands of her devoted children, who did all in their power to render their mother’s life comfortable and happy. Seldom has a woman been more loved and respected in a community. Her acquaintances were her friends; of enemies she had none. During the years we have known her we have never heard her speak ill of any person. Early in life she became a Christian and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and she remained true to her faith during her life.

The services were conducted by Rev. Frye of the M. E. Church at Reasnor, whose remarks were a high tribute to her life and character and full of hope in the thought that the hereafter would be one grand reunion where we would all be acquainted. The singers were Mrs. Waring, Mrs. Lust, Miss Amelia Shreiner and J. W. Pollock of Reasnor and Eugene Bean of Newton. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful testifying to the love and esteem of friends. Notwithstanding the inclement weather a large number were present at the funeral. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Monday, March 5, 1906, Page 1, Column 2
