William Erickson died of dropsy and heart trouble March 15, 1906, at 11:20 a.m. at his home in this city, after an illness of some months. He was patient through his long illness and had no fear of going when the call came.
Mr. Erickson was born at Goshen, New Jersey, September 6, 1845, and was in this sixty-first year at the time of his death.
He enlisted in Company D, 28th Regiment of Illinois Infantry in 1864, and received from this regiment an honorable discharge. In 1865 he removed with his parents to Jasper County, where he lived on a farm in Elk Creek Township. In 1866 he was married to Susan A. Denniston. To this union two children were born, Nellie Korff deceased, and Mrs. F. T. Patterson of this city.
The funeral was held at Mt. Zion Church, March 17, 1906, Rev. A. W. McBlaine officiating. It was in this church that he was converted under the ministry of Rev. Craig 1884. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, March 19, 1906, Page 1, Column 4
