Arthur Quincy Blair formerly of this city, but residing in Des Moines for the past eight months, and who has been in very poor health for some months, died Tuesday evening at 5:40 o’clock, February 20, 1906, after a week’s critical illness of tuberculosis of the throat.

He was born near Collins, Iowa, July 21, 1876. In October 1900 he was married to Miss Henrietta Jontz. Before his marriage he had resided here, making his home most of that time with his brother, V. O. Blair and family.

Deceased was a man of splendid character and reputation and was highly esteemed by his many friends. He was a patternmaker and while residing in Newton he was employed by the Parson-Rich and later the Parsons Hawkeye Mfg. Company.

Since going to Des Moines the family has resided at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Blair, where his death occurred. A new home near to that of his parents was nearly completed. In the erection of this home Mr. Blair had taken much interest, planning and arranging many of the details himself.

He is survived by his wife and little daughter, Juanita, who will be four years old the twenty-first day of July, her father’s birthday anniversary; by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Blair, a sister Mrs. E. M. Van Dyke of Belle Plaine, and two brothers, Victor O. and Otho L. of this city.

The remains were brought to this city yesterday morning and the funeral was held from the Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Rev. G. L. Smith officiating. The music was furnished by Mesdames O. N. Wagley, Charles Griebeling and Mr. Frank Long and Rev. G. L. Smith, accompanied by Mrs. C. M. Fisk. The acting pallbearers were: Messrs. Charles Cool and Alden Trusler of Baxter, Ed Webb of Newburg and David Hendricks, Lon Woodruff and John Chapman of this city.

There was a large attendance of relatives and friends. The workmen at the Parsons Hawkeye Mfg. Company attended in a body. There was a profusion of flowers, many beautiful emblems being sent from Des Moines and Baxter friends.

This from away were, besides his parents from Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Jontz, Edward Jontz and family, Willie and Charles Jontz and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jontz and family who resides near Baxter, I. J. Jontz and family of Collins, Ora Pyle of Melbourne, Colonel Jontz of Rhodes, Myron Smith and wife and daughter from Red Oak and Mr. and Mrs. J. S.
