Boucher Rites Set Monday
M-Sgt. John Boucher Died in Korea War, Body Returned Home
The body of M/Sgt. John Gilbert Boucher, Newton man who was killed in action in the Korean War last May, will be returned here Sunday for funeral services which will be held Monday afternoon.
Prayer services will be held at Morgan Funeral Home at one o’clock, and at the Mingo Methodist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon. Burial will be in Newton Union cemetery where the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in charge of graveside rites.
M/Sgt. Boucher was born at Mingo on Jan. 7, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Boucher. He was educated in the Mingo schools and lived all of his life in Jasper county.
On Sept. 13, 1950, he was married to Carol E, Bowers of Mingo in a ceremony performed at Iowa City. The couple lived in Newton where he was employed as a carpenter in the maintenance department at the Maytag Co., before re-entering service.
In June of last year the Army reported M/Sgt. Boucher as missing in action at Mug-Gol, South Korea, and in the autumn his family was notified that he had been killed in action. He was in Company B, 38th Infantry regiment, Second Infantry division.
M/Sgt. Boucher served in the military service during World War II for 36 months, much of that time in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Mingo Methodist church, the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Redmen Lodge.
Survivors are his widow, his parents, two brothers, Mike of Mingo and Lee of Newton; five sisters, Mrs. Mae Deaton of Mingo, Mrs. Harvey Bell of Medford, Ore., Mrs. Francis Peck of Colfax, Mrs. Wayne Townsend and Miss Marguerite Boucher, both of Newton.
Officiating at the prayer services will be Rev. Armin H. Tendick, and at the services in Mingo, Rev. Irvin Wilkins will be in charge.
