Obituary for Gertrude Hanel

Tuesday, Sept 6, 1983

Mrs. Dwight (Gertrude H.) Hanel, 90, of Prairie City, died Monday morning at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church at Prairie City. The Rev. James Seibert, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. PEO services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Larry of Des Moines, a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Rosemary) Stouffer of Des Moines: five grandchildren: six great-grandchildren: and a sister, Luna Gaye Schaphorst of Brookings, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, parents, two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Hanel was a member of the United Methodist Church of Prairie City, PEO-AV, Eastern Star, KK Klub and the American Legion Auxiliary.

The daughter of Dan and Louise Wassengaar Kane, she was born July 27, 1893 in Fairmont near Prairie City and was a 1911 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.

She was married January 14, 1920 in Des Moines.
