Snodgrass, Don – 1929-2014

Don Snodgrass, 84, of Sully, died December 6, 2014, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. Funeral services were Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial was in the Sully Cemetery in Sully.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Donovan C. Snodgrass Memorial Fund.
Don was born December 10, 1929, on the family farm in Jasper County, Iowa, the son of Carrold and Lucille Altemeier Snodgrass. He was raised in the area and received his education in the Newton School District. On April 14, 1949, he was united in marriage with Doris Rohlfing in Malcom. The couple lived in Grinnell for several years and then moved to Sully in the early 1960’s. He had been a resident of the Mayflower Community since July of this year. For many years, Don was an over the road truck driver which took him throughout the United States. He later drove locally for Monroe Feed Center and while employed there he was given the nickname “Smiley”! He retired in the early 1980’s.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Sully; seven children, Dennis (Barbara) Snodgrass of Sully, Patti (Mark) McCormick of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Barb (Mike) Mitchell of Ankeny, Jim (Sandy) Snodgrass of Kellogg, Kathy (Dennis) Moes of Dandridge, Tennessee, Don (Debbie) Snodgrass of Boynton Beach, Florida and Steven (Chris) Snodgrass of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Ronnie Snodgrass of Grinnell; one sister, Marceil Sieck of Grinnell; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clifford Snodgrass; two sisters, Joyce Johnson and Phyllis Snodgrass; one great-grandson, Bentley Snodgrass.
