J. W, Cook Dies at 73
John W. Cook, 73, of Monroe, a retired Jasper county farmer, died at Skiff Memorial hospital here this morning at 8 o’clock. Suffering from a heart ailment, he entered the hospital for treatment Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Cook who has been in ill health the past three years, also entered the hospital Thursday, and relatives said her condition was critical.
Mr. Cook was born in Virginia, Dec. 28, 1868, the son of Frank and Ella Cook. The family moved to Missouri when he was 2 years old and moved to Iowa and settled near Newton when he was a young man.
Immediate relatives surviving include a daughter, Mrs. Bernice VandePol of near Newton, Mrs. Raymond Verwers of Kellogg, and Earl Cook of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Frank Ballard of Des Moines.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Murdoch Funeral Home here Sunday afternoon, at 2 o’clock with burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
