J. N. Chipps, 103, Dies in California
Body to be Brought to Monroe for Services and Interment
Joshua N. Chipps, 103, former Jasper county farmer, died Sunday morning at 2:00 o’clock at Santa Anna, Calif., at the residence of his nephew, Elmer McCauley, with whom he made his home. Mr. Chipps was the father of C.L. Chipps of Newton.
Definite funeral arrangements have not been made, although the body will be brought to Monroe this week for services and interment.
Mr. Chipps was born in Tompkins county, N.Y., on Oct. 16, 1829, and came with his parents to Ohio when he was nine years of age. In 1854, he moved to Jasper county, living on a farm between Newton and Monroe and also for a short time in Newton before leaving for California about 20 years ago. He first settled in Long Beach for 15 years, but for the last four had made his home in Santa Anna.
He is survived by his son, C. L. Chipps of Newton and two nephews, Wilbur McCauley of Monroe and Elmer McCauley of Santa Anna.
