Life Story of John Carter
John Clarence Carter, son of Wm. H. and Mary Catherine Carter, was born February 4, 1887, and passed away at his home in Monroe February 13, 1964, at the age of 77 years and 9 days.
He was united in marriage April 12, 1906, to Mabel Viola Ball. To this union five children were born, Mrs. Russell (Opal) Quick of Prairie City, Orval E. of Des Moines, Herbert L. of Pleasantville, Doyle C. and Mrs. Sam (Norma) McDaniel of Des Moines.
He resided on a farm in Marion county until five years ago when he moved to Monroe where he has made his home until his death.
John, as he was affectionately known by his many friends, was a kind and devoted husband, a loving father and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. There was never a task too great to undertake for his friends and loved ones.
He was a cheerful patient and always ready with a smile up to the last.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother and one sister, Ora.
Those who mourn his passing are his widow, five children, 25 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, also other relatives and many friends and neighbors.
Services were held at the Methodist Church in Monroe at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16. Rev. James Paulsen officiated. Music was furnished by Floyd Cowman, Elmo Blackledge, Forest Wilson and Paul Brown with Mrs. June LeGrand as accompanist.
Pallbearers were Lyle, Dwight and Vic Carter, Hubert and Beryl Quick and Scott McDaniel. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Eva Cowman and Mrs. Ruth Elrod.
Burial was in Dunreath Cemetery.
